The Independent Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator (OTA2) today published its update for November 2011. This shows that at the end of November there were 7.87 million unbundled lines (i.e. MPF + SMPF) and 6.18 million Wholesale Line Rental lines. The number of telephone numbers using Carrier Pre-Select was 2.67 million.

Arqiva Local TV Frequency Planning Study

In August 2011 Ofcom provided information on the locations where it might be technically possible to provide local terrestrial TV services, together with indicative coverage maps and predictions for the numbers of households that might be able to receive the services. This was based on a study carried out by Arqiva who were commissioned to assess the feasibility of broadcasting an additional Digital Terrestrial Television multiplex from existing television transmitters using Geographic Interleaved spectrum. The Arqiva report has been published on the Ofcom website.

In-Home Propagation

Ofcom has published the results of a study designed to determine the usefulness of a range of different frequencies between 500 MHz and 5 GHz for providing in-home wireless coverage.

Community Radio Scotland invitation

Ofcom has invited applications for new community radio licences in Scotland. This is part of Ofcom’s third round of community radio licensing that is taking place on a region-by-region basis across the UK.

Use of Short Range Devices alongside mobile broadband services operating in the 800MHz band

Ofcom has published an update setting out its current view on the operation of next-generation mobile technology alongside certain types of wireless equipment known as Short Range Devices (SRDs).

Consumer Bulletin

The quarterly bulletin summarises recent work on consumer advice and protection. It also includes data on the number of calls on telecoms issues such as silent calls and slamming.

Quarter 2 2011 Telecoms data tables

A summary of key trends emerging in Quarter 2 2011 from the data Ofcom collects on the UK telecommunications sector can be found here.

Investigations Programme six monthly report

The Investigations Activity report summarises Ofcom’s investigations activity during the period between 1 April and 30 September 2011 and also covers our performance in meeting a range of key performance indicators.

Consumer Protection Test

The Consumer Protection Test for telephone number allocation focuses on communications providers which have used numbers to cause serious or repeated harm to consumers.  Ofcom will not allocate 070 personal numbers, 0871/2/3 special service higher rate numbers and 09 premium rate numbers to anyone who appears on either of two lists.  Ofcom strongly encourages all providers that assign telephone numbers to others to take best use of numbers and consumer protection into account and to refer to the following two lists that we publish when making assignment decisions.

The latest ‘Under Assessment’ and ‘Number Refusal’ lists have been updated.

Television broadcast licensing update

The latest broadcast licensing update provides information about Ofcom’s broadcast TV licensing activity, including details of new licences issued and changes to existing licences.

Radio licensing monthly update

The monthly update provides information about Ofcom’s broadcast radio licensing activity with regard to both the commercial and community radio sectors.  It includes details of new licences issued, licence re-advertisements/extensions, and news of Format or Key Commitment changes that have been approved in the past month.
