TELECOMS OPERATORS
Telecoms operators, or telcos, are companies licensed to provide telecoms services in the UK. Some operators' services are available throughout the UK, while others are only available in certain areas.

TELEX
A public switched low-speed data network used for the transmission of administrative messages.
TERMINAL
A device for sending and receiving data on a communications channel. Usually denotes a monitor and keyboard without its own local memory or processor, connected to a network.
TERMINAL ADAPTOR
The ISDN equivalent of a modem. Provides the interface between a computer or network and a basic rate ISDN connection.

TETRA - TErrestrial Trunked Radio
TETRA is the standard for Private/Public Access Mobile Radio (PMR/PAMR). TETRA is capable of integrating both voice and data applications, resulting in an increase in system flexibility. It was used by Dolphin to operate its mobile wireless services in the UK but the Dolphin network was switched off in October 2004.

TEXTDIRECT
The BT prefix number service which connects callers direct to the called party but automatically incorporates the RNID Typetalk service.

TEXTPHONE
A phone which incorporates a keyboard and screen so that people with inpaired speech or hearing can use the telephone. An intermediary service operator can relay text to speech and vice-versa for people using normal phones, otherwise the device is needed at both ends of the call.
