FRIACO - Flat Rate Internet Access Call Origination
The scheme whereby ISPs can offer unmetered access to their customers because BT and other operators offer fixed rates to them. ISPs still have to assess their bandwidth needs in advance and pay accordingly so congestion and engaged tones can occur. FRIACO is not designed for always-on access and most ISPs will drop the connection if there is no traffic and/or after a fixed time - say 2 hours. They may also reject customers who are considered to be flouting their terms of use - read the supply agreement!
